Wednesday – The 2nd Day of October 2019
Random Thoughts and Reflections. On my mind? My Motherland. My home Country – Zambia. The Economy, Climate Change, Mukula tree, Black Mountains, Zesco Tarriffs, ZESCO Loadshedding or Load Management, Fuel Prices, Mealie Meal (Mugayuwa) Prices, Bill No.10, 48 Houses, ACC, ZPS, DEC, FIC, Ratsa, KCM, Mopani, Budget, GST, VAT and several other issues such as Serpent Challenge Lo. Fyani ama issues.
But, before we all develop High Blood Pressure and put pressure on GRZ Health infrastructure and Resources, let us swallow a chill pill and try to see an interesting irony. Agreed, we are all alive to the facts on the ground and we are equally able to see what’s wrong with life. One of the reasons for this could be attributed to our free education (for those above 40) and or deep knowledge of understanding and appreciating – knowing what is right. Precisely, because there’s so much right with life.
All the good parts give us the luxury of being able to consider what’s not so good. All the things that work correctly enable us to fix what’s broken. Whenever anything goes wrong, it’s easy to feel dismayed. That is no reason to perpetually be depressed or attempt to take our own lives now. Our own time will come for for. For now, we need to hang in there. We will be be much better off in future. Tukaba bwino kuntanshi (others will obviously disagree with me as the UNIP GRZ almost always assured us of the light at the end of the tunnel and future leadership which arguably never came for most of us. Tuleya tulekula ka! Lol).
Let us use the current situation and view the occurrences in good stead. We can use the moment and the occasion to remind ourselves how good we have it. Life’s troubles exist within a larger context. That context includes the beauty and abundance of life and all its positive possibilities.
If you want to know the taste of a pear, you must change the pear by eating it yourself. If you want to know the theory and methods of revolution, you must take part in revolution. All genuine knowledge originates in direct experience. – Mao Zedong. And China is where it is today because of Chairman Mao’s vision.
If all we want to do is obsess over what’s wrong, day in and day out just busy pinpointing the wrongs, that disconnects all of us from our power to move forward. Instead, consider all we still have going for us, so we can collectively make good use of it. Let us all remember and appreciate everything that’s right with life. Then we can effectively deal with everything else. There’s a way we can instantly make anything we have more valuable. All we have to do is more fully appreciate it, embrace Zambia and preserve the Country. The more we appreciate our skills, the more useful they become. The more we appreciate the people around us, the more helpful and enjoyable they become.
Appreciate your circumstances, and you’ll get more out of them. Appreciate the challenges, and you’ll transform them into achievements. Consider all the good things in your life, and even the not-so-good things. Give them more appreciation, and they will all grow in positive value.
If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude. – Colin Powell the President who never was stated.
You may not be able to move forward in the way you planned. So, move forward some other way. You may be prevented from going in the direction you intended. Yet there are plenty of other positive directions in which you can go. If plan A does not work, there are still 25 letters more on the Alphabet. Try plan B, C, D, E, F, …XYZ. Don’t allow yourself to see the obstacles as excuses. See them as opportunities. Obstacles after all are those small frightful things we see when we take the eyes off the ball and off the goalpost.
Just like the #7thNationalPlan, Planning is important, but the plan is not the achievement. If the plan doesn’t bring the progress you seek, put your positive energy into another approach. You absolutely can live the fulfilling life you wish to live. Open yourself to all the possibilities, not just the ones you originally imagined.
We all must be alive to the undeniable facts of Life. Problems or Challenges are synonymous to life. Whenever you find yourself facing a challenge which is deterring you from your hope, vision, project or faith, smile. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees (Mwe ma kufi yandi mwinenuka – Zambian Song and our perpetual cry). Stay well and be blessed folks. KEKK- October 2019
